Week 16
- Final reports (and other deliverables) are due to your advisor this Friday at 11:59pm, unless you have already made a different arrangement.
- The MS Project poster session will be next Monday (Dec. 14th) at 1pm in the GCCIS atrium (1st floor).
- We will have our second poster rehearsal in-class this Wednesday. Students will have roughly one day to make final revisions to their poster (see net bullet).
- Final posters (as .pdf files, using A1-size paper!) are due through MyCourses by 12pm on Thursday. You must submit the posters at this time - otherwise it may be difficult to print your poster in time for the poster session on Monday.
Week 15
- Poster rehearsal. Before class this Wednesday, submit your poster online through MyCourses. Details are provided below.
- Templates. Some example templates are provided below; the powerpoint examples have been updated. Students are strongly encouraged to locate, modify and/or design their own template. Remember to layout your poster so that it helps you as the presenter best communicate the main points of interest and results from your project.
Week 14
- There will be no class this week, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
- Next Week: all students will submit a .pdf of their poster through MyCourses, and give a presentation in-class. Your presentation is a max. of two minutes in length, and should contain an intial 15 second summary, followed by a slightly longer summary (1 minute in length), followed by your full summary (2 minutes). I will be stopping you at 15 seconds, 1 minute and two minutes, so make sure to practice! Each student will get 5 minutes to show their poster and answer questions. Information about poster templates is provided below.
Week 13

- We will look at sample posters (including some that won 'best poster' in their session) in-class at Wednesday, and talk about preparing your posters and poster presentations.
Week 12
- On Wedneday, students with last names starting with P-Z (Group II) will present their five-minute talk for Milestone 3. Peer evaluation form is available through MyCourses.
- Milestone 3 deliverables are due to your advisor this Friday (11:59pm).
- Reading for next week: Ch. 16 (related to preparing your poster)
Week 11
- On Wednesday, students with last names starting with A-O (Group I) will present their five-minute talk for Milestone 3. The peer evaluation form (including evaluation criteria) is available through MyCourses.
- Milestone 3 deliverables are due to your advisor by next Friday at 11:59pm (Week 12).
- Next week, students with last names starting with P-Z (Group II) will present their five-minute talk for Milestone 3.
Week 10
- Reading: Ch. 13 (skim 5-8) - planning and writing the project report.
- Next week students with last names starting with A-O (Group I) will present their five-minute talk for Milestone 3. The peer evaluation form (including evaluation criteria) is available through MyCourses.
Week 9
- Reading: Chs. 14-15 (experimentation and statistics)
Week 8
- Milestone 2 materials are due to your advisor this Friday by 11:59pm.
- Students with last names starting with A-O (Group I) will give their Milestone 2 presentation in-class on Wednesday.
- Reading for next week: Chs. 14-15 on experimentation and statistics in Zobel.
Week 7
- Students with last names starting with P-Z (Group II) will give their Milestone presentations in-class on Wednesday. (evaluation form is on MyCourses).
- Students with last names starting with A-O (Group I) will present their Milestone 2 talks next Wednesday.
- Reminder: Milestone 2 materials are due to your advisor next Friday (Week 8).
Week 6
- Reading: Ch. 11 (graphics). Make sure to read this before you come to class, as we will be discussing it.
- Students with last names starting with P-Z (Group II) will give their Milestone 2 presentation in-class next week. The evaluation form for the presentations has been posted on MyCourses.
- The web site shown in class last week for visual search of LaTeX symbols by drawing is Detexify.
Week 5
- Milestone 1 deliberables should have been received by your advisor on Friday of last week.
- Reading: Chs. 9-10 in the Zobel text (Math and Algorithms) We will discuss the readings and have an in-class exercise based on the reading.
- Reading for next week: Ch. 11 (graphics and figures)

Week 4
- Students in Group II (last name starting with P-Z) will present their Milestone 1 talk in-class on Wednesday. Submit your presentation slides as a .pdf file through the dropbox in MyCourses.

Week 3
- Group I (students with last name starting with A-0) will give a presentation for Milestone 1 on Wednesday. Before class, submit your presentation slides as a .pdf file through the dropbox in MyCourses. The peer evaluation form which outlines expectations for the talk is available through MyCourses. Talks will be no more than 5 minutes long (they will be timed!), plus 1-2 minutes for questions. Grades will be one of Plus (100%), Check (85%) or Minus (70%).
- Students in Group II (last names starting with P-Z) will present their work for Milestone 1 next Wednesday.
Week 2
- Read Chs. 4-5 before coming to class on Wednesday.
- Group I will give their in-class presentation for Milestone in-class next week (Week 3). Submit your presentation slides as a .pdf file through the dropbox in MyCourses. Week 1
- The Colloquium is held once a week. Our first class will be on Wednesday of Week 1. Please note that attendance is mandatory.
- Requirements. To enroll in this course, students must locate a faculty member who is willing to advise their work by the end of Week 1. Students should also be planning to graduate this semester (this is a capstone course).
- Available project topics may be found online here: CS MS Project Wiki (CS login required). Projects are listed by Cluster (i.e. specialization area). If you are interested in a project, you need to secure approval from the faculty member(s) who will advise the project. Students are strongly encouraged to find a project within their area of specialization. Some faculty will consider projects proposed by students, or have projects available that are not listed in the Wiki.
